The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus is in Five Islands village, west of St John's. Here's what students and staff should know when renting nearby.

Where to live

Where can I rent near the campus?
Five Islands is on the west side of St John's. Jolly Harbour and Marble Hill are the nearest areas where we list homes, and the rest of St John's is close too.
What security should I look for?
Look for burglar bars, good locks, outside lights, and whether the home is gated.

Your lease

How long should my lease be?
Ask for a lease that fits your programme, and check semester dates with the university.
Can I share a home with classmates?
Sharing a 2 or 3 bed home is common. Agree whose name is on the lease and how rent, deposit and bills are split before you move in.

Your study set-up

Will my room have a desk and AC?
Check the bedroom has a desk, good light and its own air conditioning.
Can I get fibre internet?
Ask for the internet provider and speed; fibre is generally fastest.
Do power cuts happen?
Ask whether the home has a generator or battery backup.

Getting to class

Do I need a car?
Buses are minibuses that mostly run to and from St John's with no fixed timetable, so many people get a car. We can recommend car rentals or used car sellers.
