Where to live

Which areas are closest to campus?
English Harbour and Falmouth are the nearest places to rent. The campus is in the English Harbour national park area, so homes close by are mostly in those two villages.
Quiet and scenic
The south coast is calmer than the north, with marinas, restaurants and beaches close by. It is also further from St John's, so think about how you will shop and get around.
What security should I look for?
Look for burglar bars, good locks, outside lights, and whether the home is gated.

Your lease

How long should my lease be?
Ask for a lease that ends when you leave Antigua for clinical rotations, rather than a fixed year. Check intake and semester dates with the university.
Can I share a home with classmates?
Sharing a 2 or 3 bed home is common. Agree whose name is on the lease and how rent, deposit and bills are split before you move in.
Are homes furnished?
Many homes are furnished. Check what is included, and whether the bedroom has a desk and its own air conditioning.

Getting to class

Do I need a car?
Buses are minibuses that mostly run to and from St John's with no fixed timetable. Most students buy a used car and sell it when they leave. We can recommend car rentals or used car sellers.
What about internet and power?
Ask the provider and typical speed (fibre is generally fastest), and whether the home has a generator or battery backup.
